Cash back is king
Rakuten is huge in japan but not so much in the usa. Most people can’t pronounce their name, let-alone know what they do.
In the simplest terms, the USA-side of rakuten is all about getting people cash back from the stores they’re likely already shopping at.
I joined Rakuten as they were building an in-house creative department with agency talent. Together we transformed the brand perception from a digital coupon generator to a savvy value-add for premium brands.

when Dana Marineau took the helm as CMO, her mission was to elevate the brand to a household name. By creating a consistent identity through strategy and brand presence, we helped her get there.
When she was asked to speak at Duke University, She had me put together a little video that outlined our journey. It was a fun chance to look back on what we had accomplished as a department.
